Cathy Beer is passionate about pet welfare!

Like many Australian households, Cathy grew up with pets in the home.  Cathy’s first love was her grandparents’ cat, Binky, who lived until the ripe old age of 22 years!  It was not until the adoption of older doggies in 2008 that she became aware of the dark side to pet ownership in Australia – tens of thousands of cats and dogs are abandoned or surrendered to pounds and animal shelters every year in New South Wales. Cathy found this deeply disturbing and decided to research into why this is happening.

After over 20 years as a professional marketer in the corporate world, Cathy followed her passion for animal welfare.  In 2013 Cathy created Pets4Life, Australia’s independent education resource for cat and dog guardians.  The goal of Pets4Life is to reduce animal surrender and improve pet wellbeing.  In 2014 Cathy was interviewed by Brisbane radio 4BC about the risks of online pet shopping.  In 2017 Pets4Life was reinvigorated with a new look website full of great original and curated content.

Fast forward to 2018 when Cathy launched an exciting new national initiative, the Jetpets Companion Animals Rescue Awards! These awards celebrate and acknowledge inspiring examples of rehabilitation and rehoming of companion animals Australia wide.

Cathy has completed the Cert IV in Companion Animal Services and now an accredited Delta trainer. Cathy is providing dog training services in the North Shore, Sydney and is a volunteer instructor at the Sydney All Breeds Dog Training Club in Concord.

Cathy is a voluntary member of Willoughby Council’s Companion Animals Committee.  Cathy and her husband John currently look after two long term foster dogs, Twinkle and Fluffy.  Cathy has discovered that the more effort you put into your pets, the more joy you receive.
