According to RSPCA’s The Biscuit magazine issue 11, some of the things vets have had to remove from dog’s stomachs include rocks, rope, nails, bottle corks, marbles, pens, skewers, and baby rattles. The most common offender is socks. So what can your dog eat? The RSPCA lists items that 1) very toxic and can be fatal, 2) dangerous foods and 3) food your dog can eat.
Very toxic – can be fatal
- Alcohol
- Avocado
- Bread dough
- Chocolate
- Coffee & caffeine products
- Fruit pits (eg apple, mango, avocado, cherry pits)
- Garlic
- Grapes, raisins, sultanas & currants
- Mouldy foods
- Mushrooms
- Nuts
- Onion powder
- Onions
- Xylitol (artificial sweetener)
Dangerous foods
These foods can make your dog very sick.
- Bones (cooked)
- Capsicum (green)
- Citrus plants
- Corn on the cob
- Eggplant
- Eggs (raw)
- Fatty or processed foods
- Lamb chops
- Potato (raw)
- Roughly cut vegetables
